Perfect Pants

Have you always wanted to make a pair of pant that duplicate the quality of the most expensive ready-to-wear? Do you want comfort as well as style? Want to raise your sewing and pressing skills to the next level?
Hoping to add to your sewing reference library? This construction class covers it all!
Judy will teach Perfect Pants. A class designed to be easy enough for beginners, but innovative enough for those of you who have a lot of experience.
Select a basic pattern (commercial, draft your own with your software or by
hand) with a flat-front, tapered or boot cut leg according to your preference
and with the waistline where you want it, at the natural waist or riding low.
Rather than searching for a pattern with the design features you want, you
can add the fly front zipper, zipper guard and slant pockets to your pattern
in class. Throw away the guide sheets and sew even better with Judy serving
as your expert guide.
We will offer 10 lessons over a 5 week period of time. That means you will work at a pace to cover 2 lessons per week, but if you get behind, we have allowed some room for that too. However, not all good things can go on forever so we will end the class after 9 weeks.
The Class Content
This class is intended to enable you to do the following:
- Make flat front pant with fly zipper and zipper guard, slant pocket
and 1" waistband. Taper or boot cut leg and waist level according to your preference.
- Learn quality construction and pressing techniques.
- Become independent of guide sheets.
- Adjust any basic flat-front pattern for design details (fly
front zipper, zipper guard, 1" waistline and slant pockets.
- Have a completed pair of pants to wear that are the envy of all your friends.
How the Class will Be Presented
- A kit (cost included in registration fee) will be sent to you which includes the following:
- Rol-Control for waistlines
- Fusible interfacing for the fly front
- Fusible Stabilizing tape for the slant pockets
- 2 Pant hooks
- Judy's Book entitled "Pants Design and Construction" to use as an additional reference.
- Two lessons per week will be posted for your use.
- Judy will host two chat sessions per week. Chats will be scheduled so that you can fit them into your schedule. All chat sessions will be archived so you can refer to them later if missed a class or just want to check what was said.
- Chats Scheduled for Tuesdays at 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific and Sundays at 5pm Eastern and 2pm Pacific beginning April 20 for 5 weeks
- An email group will be set up exclusively for class members. Judy will be a part of this group and you can talk with her as well as other group members.
- A photo site will be set up strictly for members. You can post pictures to assist you in getting the best answers to your questions. You can show off your work to other class members. Judy can post a picture to help answer questions.
- Periodically, we will send you a poll. This will give you an opportunity to give us feedback on an anonymous level. This will help assure your needs are being met.

What Participants in the First Class Had to Say
- The use of the many pictures made it possible to have something tangible to view (at ring-side) in addition to the written instructions. I don't have to try to remember what I saw, as I would have to if this had been a "live" class. The flexibility of when I could read and download the lesson was great, as opposed to what actual attendance in a class would require.
- I thought this class was fantastic. My pants look great because of the techniques I learned, and I am looking forward to using these techniques in other projects. Judy Barlup is a wonderful instructor, and made herself readily available. Some of us got side tracked by fitting, and although the class was not a fitting class, Judy dealt with this extensively.
- The amount of infomation contained in each lesson was amazing as well as the VERY clear color photos that Judy included were great.
Judy is an awesome teacher, if you have the opportunity, take a class from her, do so. She assisted each of us with fitting issues during the live chats, even though the class was about construction.
Judy extended the class for over two weeks to make sure everyone had a chance to finish the pants and has extended an offer to continue to answer questions for the students.
All in all I learned some very good techniques from this class. Before this class I was afraid to make a pair of pants with a zipper and waistband. I have made several pair since the class and must say that I highly recommend this to others if it offered again.
