Why take a class on-line?
Taking a
class on-line means you don’t have to travel; you can participate
right in your
own home
with
your own
machine and tools. It also means that
you have access to instructors that might not travel to your area (or might
not offer classes at a time that works with your schedule).
Using web technologies, on-line
classes give you:
-
Access to lessons that you can print out. You can take these lessons to your own sewing
machine and work with them.
You have
these lessons for future reference
-
Discussions with the instructor and other
students via a live chat room at scheduled chat times. You can ask questions, get
feedback, and talk about new ideas and approaches with the whole class. You can also print these discussions out – so
you’ll have the information available to you later.
- Participation in a private on-line discussion list to get your questions answered even when you can't be on-line at the same time as the instructor. You can also share ideas with other class participants and post pictures for sharing as long as the class is "active".
-
Flexibility in scheduling and familiar
surroundings. You can work on the
lessons when it works for *you*, and you can do it with your own familiar
machine and tools.
Why take classes from us?
We strive for excellence and offer professional expertise:
All of our instructors are chosen for thier excellence and their desire to meet the needs of the on-line class participant.
All our courses offer illustrated print materials, resources for your sewing library, live chat, private discussion lists and a place to post your own pictures and view pictures from other class participants. The classes are truly interactive, the next best thing to spending several weeks with an experienced instructor right in your own home.
Loretta personally works with each teacher to be sure the class materials are comprehensive and user friendly for the on-line student. She has years of experience doing this and will deliver an experience that excedes that you may have had in other on-line courses where instructors are lacking this expertise.
Our on-line classes are a rich
experience. We make the most of the
tools and technologies that are easily available today:
- You get a full set of lessons that you can print out,
and complete using your familiar tools, in your familiar surroundings,
at a time that works best for you
- You can participate in email discussions with the
instructor and the rest of the class – so you can share and learn from
each other,
- You can participate in live chats with the instructor and
other classmates, getting feedback immediately
- You can email photos of your work so the instructor
can review it
We are committed to offering the
highest quality on-line lessons available. We listen to you to make sure
we’re offering what you want.
During and after our classes, we
send out surveys to gather feedback from you; they are filled out anonymously
(if you’d like) so that we can gather and act on what’s really needed.
In addition to the on-line course information and knowledge gained,
you'll get a valuable addition for your sewing library.
At FT-U we want to be sure that your learning experience doesn’t
just last during the class. You’ll come away from the class with
the new skills and abilities that you’ve learned, with the course
material and notes, and with
indispensable additions to your sewing library.
How does it work?
- Shortly before the class begins you will recieve a packet in the mail containing your library resources and any materials in the class kit that the instructor asks us to provide.
- You will be given access to the private discussion list for the class. You will recieve an e-mail welcoming you to the class and inviting you to set your participation as digest or individual e-mail.
- You will be given the website address for the class portal. This is where you will access the lesson pages, the live chat, and the class photo site.
- You will be given the website address and the password to enter the live chats along with the teacher's schedule for hosting these chats. Frequency of chats will vary by course but will be at least once a week.
- We will provide assistance to you to assure that your experience is positive and that you can successfully participate in all aspects of the class. We pride ourselves in providing GREAT customer service.
If you have questions about our on-line classes or suggestions for a class send us a note.
